Stanford Doctor Using Comedy for Healthcare Reform

Zubin Damania is a physician and content creator who operates under the handle ZDoggMD. He trained at UC Davis and worked as a hospitalist at Stanford before transitioning to full-time content creation and healthcare advocacy. His online presence began around 2010 with parody music videos parodying healthcare topics, which attracted early viral attention. He subsequently expanded to long-form interviews, commentary videos, and a podcast covering healthcare policy, physician burnout, insurance industry practices, and public health topics.
His commentary is oriented toward critiques of the US healthcare system — particularly fee-for-service payment models, administrative burden on physicians, and what he characterizes as a disconnect between how medicine is delivered and what patients need. He has been a consistent public advocate for vaccination and countered vaccine misinformation, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, while also criticizing aspects of public health communication during that period. He has described his position as favoring "nuance" over aligned partisan messaging, which drew criticism from some public health communicators who argued his hedging on certain pandemic policies complicated clear public health guidance.
Damania co-founded Turntable Health, a direct primary care clinic in Las Vegas intended to demonstrate an alternative care delivery model. The clinic closed in 2017 following financial difficulties. His content earns revenue through memberships, sponsorships, and speaking engagements. He holds an MD and is a licensed physician, though his primary current activity is media production rather than clinical practice.
